Context

This shrine uses the word 'Romanticism' as a placeholder term. I really enjoy a lot of things usually set around the 1800's that involve horror elements, and it felt specific enough of an aesthetic to place into it's own shrine. You'll notice what I mean as you read on. (If anyone has a better name for this shrine, feel free to comment!)
This shrine focuses on :
Amnesia

I absolutely adore the original Amnesia collection, especially The Dark Descent. The eerie castle, inhumane experiments and outdated graphics all work perfectly together to create a tense atmosphere. Additionally, I find the games incredibly beautiful when it comes to design and soundtracks, everything is so elegant and mysterious. Amnesia was extremely popular in early YouTube horror gaming, becoming one of the most recognised of its' time. It was even featured in the song
'Hello Monsta'
by Boyinaband (I do not condone his alleged crimes) where the Gatherers were placed besides the likes of Slender man and Prymid Head.
I particularily remember seeing Markiplier play this game, though I was very young at the time, so I didn't watch it all. There is a more recent game in the Amnesia collection called 'Amnesia: The Bunker' but it just doesn't hit the same and was not nearly as popular as its' ancestors. I suppose it was missing a big part of what makes this collection so special; it was messy and buggy but had an unmeasurable amount of charm. I would 100% reccomend this if you want something to play, Justine is probably the best one to start out with since it is the shortest!
Layers Of Fear

The original Layers Of Fear was one of the first horror games I completed (At 9 years old). It was a combination of two of my favourite things in the world, horror and art. Due to my young age, I did not understand the story as deeply, but now I can appreciate the themes of mental illness and tragedy as I replay it. A few years ago, I bought the whole completed collection alongside the Inheritance DLC, I wanted to give myself the chance to properly enjoy the entire story uninterupted. As of writing this, I have yet to complete the remake, but I aim to do so soon. (I have way too many games to finish tbh)
I love these games for many similar reasons as the Amnesia collection; the soundtrack and design is amazing! In the first game, you venture through a victorian mansion, in the second you wander through an eerily empty boat and the remake places you in a lonely lighthouse. Each game follows the main theme of creativity and the curses that ails artists, it is very abstract and requires a lot of attention to the lore drops provided through collectables and letters.
